Lent is the 40 day period of preparation before Easter. It is a penitential season marked by prayer, fasting and abstinence, and almsgiving. The ashes are typically made by burning the palms that were distributed the previous year on Palm Sunday.
During this time, many Christians choose to fast or abstain from various foods.
During our Ash Wednesday services, Pastors Carr and Harrison will make the Sign of the Cross on each person's forehead, and say a variation of "Remember, thou art dust, and to dust thou shalt return."
