May 13th: The Holy Conversations initiative was kicked off on May 13th with a weekend long retreat for Committee Members indicated to the left. Rev. Eric McKinney, from the Texas Methodist Foundation, facilitated the two days of sessions.
About
This is a process based on a book by Gil Rendle, of the Texas Methodist Foundation, called "Holy Conversations: Strategic Planning as a Spiritual Practice for Congregations".
The book poses three questions that are key in moving forward:
- Who are we?
- What has God called us to be and do?
- Who is our neighbor?
The leader of this process is Rev. Eric McKinney of the Texas Methodist Foundation. He has led this process in United Methodist Churches all over the state of Texas. Rev. McKinney met with our Staff-Parish Relations Committee on Sunday, January 16, and the committee heard Eric explain the initial weekend that will begin the process and what it will mean in terms of hard work for the church.
The Church Council approved this process for Kessler Park UMC at the January 30th Council Meeting. The Church Council selected members to participate and Pastor David Carr also selected five additional participants.
